What a Way to End a Week

Well, I managed to live almost 32 years without having a wreck. Today, I broke that cycle! The road I live on is very long and runs beside a college campus. It's very hilly & winding. I'm not too far from the mountains. For whatever reason, the sun is really blinding. I topped a hill near the back gate of the college campus & I noticed a car sitting at a stop sign coming out of a subdivision. All of a sudden, the car just pulled out in front of me. There wasn't much I could do. I laid down on the horn and slammed on brakes, but you can't stop quick enough when you're going downhill. I knew immediately that I was going to hit them. This is a 2-lane road, but my knee-jerk reaction was to swerve. Thank goodness there wasn't a car coming in the other lane. At the same time, thank goodness I did swerve, because I think the accident might have been a lot worse if I hadn't. I ended up hitting them in the front driver's side quarter panel. I drive a Jeep Liberty, so I sit up a little higher & I think that's what helped. I slammed into him so hard, I am very surprised the airbags didn't deploy. I must've stiffened up every muscle in my body to brace myself because tonight, I'm very "achy." The guy I hit was VERY nice. He immediately apologized and admitted it was his fault (well, duh . . . dude, I'm just driving down the road & you pull out in front of me . . . who else's fault would it be?). He made sure I was okay and checked both cars. He said he thought the cars were okay, but that he would leave it up to me to decide what to do. I told him to pull back just enough so I could look at my vehicle. I only had a few small scratches in my bumper (which is like a hard plastic). He had a small dent, but said he wasn't worried about it. I was on my way to work and at this point was going to be late + he was so nice & I wasn't hurt and the car didn't have any major damage, so I decided it would be fine just to swap information. Of course, I've gotten a little bit of criticism today because I didn't call the police, but I feel like I did the best thing in this particular situation. The only reason I would need a police report is if I was going to file an insurance claim, which I'm not. So, no reason to get the police involved & have his insurance go up over a few little scratches. So, I went on to work and had a headache ALL DAY LONG! In fact, I still do. The day was fine. I was (and continue to be) very thankful that this wasn't any worse than it was. It most definitely could've been! Sometimes it takes something like this to "wake you up" and remind you that you're not invincible and that you MUST live every single day as if it were your last. NOOOOO, I didn't almost die or anything like that, but it just reminded me of how precious every day is!

Well, off to try to relax and get some rest. Up early in the morning to go to breakfast with my mom, Bubby and closest friend. Then, we're heading to see the "Bee Movie" and to do some shopping for the child we picked off the Angel Tree at church.

I hope all of you have a very good weekend!! Until next time . . .

Good thing the damage was only to the car and you were ok!
